The wonderful part about owning both an Italian supercar manufacturer and one of the premiere German automakers is that you can cherry-pick the best of both worlds and create something incredible. Throbbing under the Audi R8’s glass engine cover is the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4’s incredible V10, nestled in the middle of Ingolstadt’s own highly advanced aluminum monocoque. Having grown two cylinders and a liter larger since its introduction, the R8 5.2 muscles its way into the company of supercars, but it does so with class and comfort rather than simply unruly brute force. Fortunately, the larger engine and increased performance haven’t changed the alluringly athletic sheetmetal in any way, allowing the R8 to stay at the forefront of auto styling. In many ways it draws comparisons with its competitors from Stuttgart, but the R8 translates its unique attributes into such an appealing form that it truly has no rivals.
