What has five seats, four doors, and a Corvette Z06 motor fit to burst out of the ominously black and cavernous grille? It’s Holden’s latest smidgen of antipodean insanity, cooked up by the specialists at Holden’s Special Vehicles division. The 427 cubic inch V8 gives the pumped-up Commodore enough gumption to claim title as the fastest and most powerful production car ever built in Australia— no small feat considering the largest island in the world has been home to a full-blown muscle car war for years. Loads of fast V8 cars, primarily sedans, prowl the Australian tarmac, and HSV has been tuning some of them for more than twenty years. So why’s this HSV creation special? It was created with input from Scottish racer Tom Walkinshaw, who was largely responsible for running Holden’s V8 Supercar racing program through Walkinshaw Racing. That’s what the “w” stands for, in fact; the w427 was so good that the legendary Walkinshaw put his name on the boot. After a spin in this 503 horsepower monster sedan, who wouldn’t want their name on the w427?
