If you’ve ever spent any time reading about the TT before, you should be familiar with the term “Bauhaus” –originally a term to describe a school of German modern art, it has been creatively repurposed to describe the TT’s award-winning design. Volkswagen’s California design studio is where several noted auto designers, including J Mays, worked collaboratively to create the deceptively simple form. While it looks great, it also is quite a performer, thanks to the winning combination of the quattro all-wheel drive system and a bored out 3.2-liter VR6 engine that provides 250 horsepower, but lots and lots of torque. The torque is useful to combat some of the drivetrain efficiency losses inherent in an all-wheel drive design, and the result is an attractive coupe that really hustles.
